Charles Knight, London, 1838-1843. 8 vols. RICHLY AND NICELY ILLS. Green ornamental calf. Bound by Hering, 9 Newman St. Spine with gilt titled vignettes, raised bands and four gilt embossed ornaments. Marbled edges and endpapers. Edges cover slightly scratched, causing slight fading gilt embossing. Vols.1-4: leather slightly water and or damp stained. Some vignettes a bit worn. Some pages with light water stains. Vol.1: Head spine a bit worn, hinges cracked, but underneath binding in tact, last endpages moist stained. Vol.2: Back hinges a bit weak. Vol.4: Leather front cover on about 1 cm scratched. Vol.7: Front cover with two punch holes causing rubbing and some damage of the leather. Vol.8: Head spine bit worn. Charles Knight (15 March 17919 March 1873) was an English publisher and author. Early edition of Charles Knight's celebrated Pictorial Edition of Shakespeare's works, handsomely bound and profusely illustrated with hundreds of full-page and in-text wood-engraved illustrations depicting views, characters and stage settings.
