NORBERG, D.,
La poésie Latine rythmique du haut Moyen Age.
Almqvist & Wiksell, Stockholm, 1954. 119p. Sewn. With authors intention to J.H. Waszink and small name stamp J.H. Waszink on half title. (Rare). 'This admirable volume presents critical studies preliminary to a general inquiry into the development of Latin rhythmic poetry of the High Middle Ages. Karl Strecker did great work in collating manuscripts and making accessible relevant texts in 'Rhythmi aevi Merovingici et Carolini (...), but Norberg has many just criticisms to make in principle and detail. (...) He stresses the need for a Latinist to orientate himself in Romance philology, and shows nice discrimination in the extent of vulgarism to be allowed to different authors, and in localisation of ‘antonyms’. He writes with verve and humour throughout (…). Norberg has scores of excellent interpretations and convincing emendations, with a fascinating sureness of touch.’ (D.C.C. YOUNG in The Classical Review (New Series), 1955, pp.289-290).
