WHITE, K.D.,
Roman Farming.
Thames & Hudson, London, 1970. 536p. ills.(B&W photographs and line drawings). Original green gilt stamped cloth with dust wrps. Nice copy. 'This book may be recommended, though I have many criticisms to make on points of detail (...). The subject is cardinal for the understanding of Roman life; the treatment is lucid and stimulating (...); the conclusions are important, and almost always convincing. (...) I found 'Roman Farming' absorbingly interesting, and believe it is indispensable to all libraries devoted to classical antiquity, to general history, and to the history of technology. I have space for a brief mention only of the 'Bibliography', which forms a necessary companion (...). There is a general introduction to Roman agriculture, and a list of some 918 classified items (...). Most entries have brief remarks indicating the contents and White's criticisms, This is a very useful instrument for research.' (IJ.A. RICHMOND in The Classical Review (New Series), 1972, 389-392).
