HISTORIA COMPOSTELLANA. Cura et studio E. Falque Rey.
Brepols, Turnhout, 1988. LXXXVIII,600p. Original gilt titled terra cotta cloth. Small sticker glued to paste down endpaper. Series: Corpus Christianorum Continuatio Mediaevalis, LXX. Nice copy. (Rare). ‘Falque Rey has (…) provided a major service to students of the Spanish Middle Ages with this painstaking edition (…). Falque Rey is primarily a Latinist rather than a historian, but she has done historians an immense good tune. The introduction to her edition devotes twenty-four pages to the ‘authors and the work’, another twenty pages to the description of the manuscripts, fourteen to the manuscript transmission, and a final eighteen to the history of the text. Falque Rey has a faultless command of the bibliography of the subject, narrowly considered; and her studies of the manuscripts and their transmission, in addition to the edited text itself, are invaluable. Both the author and the editors of the Corpus Christianorum are to be congratulated upon the production of an edition which represents a major contribution to the progress of Spanish medieval studies.’ (BERNARD F. REILLY, in Speculum, 1991, p.402).
