VOGEL, C.J. de,
Greek Philosophy. A Collection of Texts. Selected and supplied with some notes and explations. Vol.I: Thales to Plato. Vol.II: Aristotle, the early Peripatetic School and the Early Academy. Vol.III: The Hellenistic-Roman Period.
Brill, Leiden, 1963/60/64. 3rd/2nd/2nd ed. 3 vols. XI,334;VIII,338;XV,672p. Cloth. Cover and spine gilt titled. Vol.1: Signature and date on free endpaper. Nice copy. 'This is a book written with a definite purpose, for the teacher and student rather than for the research worker. As such, it should satisfy a real need. Throughout, the emphasis is on philosophic doctrines and speculations; literary questions, the successions of philosophers and schools, religious ideas and the political affiliations are scarcely touched on. But these are matters which may be developed in teaching if desired, and the present book provides a very adequate tool for the teaching of Greek philosophy to Classical students. (G.B. KERFERD on the first volume in The Classical Review (New Series), 1951, p.159).
