WEIGEL, H.,
Der Trojanische Krieg. Die Lösung.
Wissenschaftliche Buchgesellschaft, Darmstadt, 1970. XI,174p. Folding map. Cloth. Series: Libelli, LI. 'Troy fell on 10 October 1300 B.C. Miss Weigel's interesting, sometimes quaint book demonstrates this by a multi-disciplinary study of the problem, facilitated by reading in widt rather than depth. It is not readily summarized but connoisseurs of the problem will recognize some of the arguments, here assembled in an unusual way. (...) The one discipline which is not brough into play here is the archaeology of artefacts, and with it the grounds for dates at Troy, Knossos, and Thera. There are still, however, some arguments in this book worth a second look (...); and there is some good sense too in the new euhemerist approach to the story, examining the dramatic process which turns history, misremembered or guessed, into the stuff of epic.' (JOHN BOARDMAN in The Classical Review (New Series), 1973, p.83).
