KOOIJ, A. van der, Die alten Textzeugen des Jesajabuches. Ein Beitrag zur Textgeschichte des Alten Testaments. Universitätsverlag, Freiburg Schweiz / Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht, Göttingen, 1981. XI,374p. Original hard bound with dust wrps. With author's dedication on free endpaper. Series: Orbis Biblicus et Orientalis, 35. ‘This excellent study is the translation into German and reworked form of the author’s 1978 dissertation accepted at the Theological Faculty of the University of Utrecht. His purpose, as expressed in the Introduction, was to carry through for Isaiah the necessary investigation of the ancient textual witnesses in the framework of the history of the MT. He sought to ‘illuminate those aspects which are essential for the text-critical evaluation of the text witnesses, such as: bases and causes of textual differences between the text witnesses and the MT, the place of the text witnesses within the textual history, and the milieu in which they arose.’ (…) After chaps. 3 on ‘Goal and Method of Textual Criticism’ and 4, ‘Beginning and End of the Textual History of the Book of Isa’, he divides the texts into chronological groups. (…) An index of biblical citations and a bibliography conclude this well-bound book printed by photo-offset from typing (…) all well done. (…) The author expresses some conclusions as to authorship date of these texts which may not immediately be accepted by all scholars, but he has reasoned closely and logically to the conclusions and his views should be considered seriously.’ LEONA GLIDDEN RUNNING in Journal of biblical Literature, 1983, pp.302-303 € 65.00 (Antiquarian)
