Upper corners cover a bit bumped. ‘As one who has tried himself to find his way through the labyrinth of Mycenaean scholarship, I salute with envy McDonald’s achievement as solid, accurate, and above all clear. He is too modest about his own contribution, especially to topography. (…) the excellent line drawings make possible a wealth of illustration without excessive expense. The chapter bibliographies - nearly 100 items - are admirably selective. The connections with Homer, though unobtrusive, are extremely valuable. Archaeological terms are both explained on their first appearance and listed in a glossary. The index is full, accurate and useful.
