MÜLLER, G., Die Darstellung der Kinetik bei Lukrez. Akademie Verlag, Berlin, 1959. 130p. Sewn. Front cover and first pages to lower part a bit punched. Upper corner a bit creased through and through. Series: Deutsche Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Berlin, Institut für griechisch-römische Altertumskunde, Arbeitsgruppe für hellenistisch-römische Philosophie, Veröffentlichung Nr. 7. 'This is a valuable piece of criticism. It consists of a detailed running analysis of the argument of Book ii and of the last section of Book 1 (ll.951-end), with penetrating discussions of textual problems (with particular reference to Munro, Giussani, and Bailey) throughout. There is a concluding chapter on Lucretius' own account of his poetic profession, and four appendixes. (...) The aim which Müller sets before himself is to show that the modern tendency to regard Lucretius as primarily a poet and secondarily a philosopher is wrong; 'we must turn away from the poet's psychology and back to the intellectual content of his poem and to his exposition of it'. (...) Müller's essay in combining the philosophical analysis of Giussani with the textual principles of Lachmann merits close consideration.' (A.H. COXON in The Classical Review (New Series),1962, pp.54-55). € 15.00 (Antiquarian)
