  • De verborum Graeci et Latini differentiis del societatibus excerpta. A Cura di P. de Paolis. Quattro Venti, Urbino, 1990. LXVIII,198p. Sewn. Cardboard. Upper corner a bit dog's eared. Series: Testi Gramaticali Latini (TGL), 1. 'In the fifth volume of 'Grammatici Latin' Keil printed separately the three major witnesses to the text of Macrobius' lost work (....). De Paolis, more conveniently, prints the excerpts on the right-hand page (...) with the corresponding passages of the 'De Verb' opposite. (...) De P. provides a careful introduction, evaluating the witnesses, and arguing that Macrobius used the 'Rematikon' of Apollonius Dyskolus directly and was himself used by Priscian. He concludes that Macrobius is here, as elsewhere, a 'compilatore erudite', who, almost by accident, produced a work which uniquely 'propose esplicitamente di confrontare una sezione dei sistemi linguistici latino e greco' (p.xxviii), that concerning verbs. Appendix I lists places where De P.'s text of the excerpts differs from Keil's.' (MICHAEL WINTERBOTTOM in The Classical Review (New Series), 1992, p.451). From the library of Prof. Carl Deroux. € 25.00 (Antiquarian)
