  • The Barbarians of Ancient Europe. Realities and Interactions. Cambridge University Press, Cambridge (...), 2011. XXIII,XXIII,395p. ills.(B&W as well as full colour photographs and line drawings). Black silver titled imitation leather bound with dust wrps. Dust wrps slightly wrinkled to edges. Dust wrps to inner part front page creased. Nice copy. 'This book, the product of a conference held at the University of Richmond in 2003, attempts to join together two different interests of archaeologists. One is ‘realities’, an illustration of the life, customs, and beliefs of ancient peoples. The other is connections and interactions, cultural and technical exchange between ancient communities (p. 1). The volume has contributions from well-known scholars focusing on a wide range of ancient groups including the Scythians, Thracians, Germans, Etruscans, and Celts. (...) Overall, the volume is well-planned and consistent. It will be a welcome addition to university and personal libraries. There is much dialogue between individual chapters, and in general they are well-written and clear with a large number of illustrations. The volume provides good coverage on the ancient peoples who interacted with the Mediterranean world, though it has two noticeable structural omissions – the Iberians in Spain and the ‘Illyrian’ and ‘Pannonian’ communities in the western Balkan Peninsula.' (DANIJEL DZINO in Bryn Mawr Classical Review 2011.09.34). From the library of Prof. Carl Deroux. € 75.00 (Antiquarian) ISBN: 9780521194044
